GIFAS

The French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS) is an industry body that brings together more than 400 companies ranging from the main prime contractors and systems suppliers to SMEs. They form a cohesive, hard-driving high-technology sector specializing in the design, development and construction, marketing and maintenance of all aeronautical and space programmes and equipment, both civilian and military planes and defence and security systems. GIFAS represents an industry whose 2022 sales turnover was €55.2 billion, that exports 83% of its output and, directly employs 188 000 individuals and devotes nearly 12% of its turnover to R&D. GIFAS organizes the International Paris Airshow every two years, which is the world’s premier aerospace event. The 54th Paris-Le Bourget Airshow will run from 19 to 25 June 2023. The GIFAS Chairman is Mr Guillaume Faury, Executive Chairman of Airbus.

With regard to space activities, which account for around 10% of the sector's revenues, GIFAS is a stakeholder in COSPACE, a consultation committee composed of representatives of the industry & the French administrations which meets regularly to discuss the sector's major challenges. In addition, since 2021, through the SpacEarth Initiative, GIFAS has been communicating widely with the public on the growing usefulness of the space industry in the face of current societal issues, particularly with regard to the environment, security and access to digital technology.
